What To Know About The Georgia World Congress Center

When the CHEERSPORT National All Star Cheerleading Championship returns to Atlanta and the Georgia World Congress Center in 2024, it should be familiar territory for many competitors and their guests, while others will get to enjoy Atlanta’s charm and hospitality for the first time.

The GWCC is located in downtown Atlanta and features 1.5 million square feet of exhibit space, which allows for flexibility in hosting a variety of events. It opened in 1976 and has been through three expansions – 1985, 1992 and 2002 – to keep up with growth and demands.

The venue now has a dozen exhibit halls in all, two ballrooms, three auditoriums, nearly 100 meeting rooms, landscaped outdoor spaces and approximately 7,000 parking spaces.

The convention center is just a piece of an expansive campus overseen by the Georgia World Congress Center Authority.

The campus spans more than 220 acres and also includes Centennial Olympic Park (from the 1996 Summer Olympic Games) and Mercedez-Benz Stadium (home of the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United).

An on-site hotel scheduled to open in 2024 – Signia by Hilton Atlanta.

Things To Do In The Atlanta Area

Atlanta is the capital of Georgia, and with a rich history that spans nearly 200 years, the city has played a large role in shaping the America we know and enjoy today, first as a rail hub, as the birthplace of Coca-Cola and as a major center for the Civil Rights Movement (it was home to Martin Luther King Jr.).

As the host of the Summer Olympics in 1996, Atlanta received many updates and new facilities, while the area also became a hub for Delta Airlines.

The long story short here, is that for history buffs, two centuries of history means there’s so much to see and learn about when there’s time away from the competition.

If turning back time isn’t your thing, however, there are many exciting, uplifting and fun things to see and experience, beginning with the Centennial Olympic Park and the Centennial Park District, all within walking distance of the convention center.

There’s also the Georgia Aquarium, College Football Hall of Fame, Children’s Museum of Atlanta, Peachtree Trolleyandthe World of Coca-Cola, where visitors can learn about the history of co*ke and try more than 100 beverages from around the world.

Those are just a few of the amazing things nearby. HERE is a more complete list, including some of the best places to eat and drink.

One of the other benefits of traveling to compete is the chance to enjoy food and culture from different regions.

The Atlanta area certainly has a long list of delicious things to try and enjoy, including BBQ, fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, shrimp and grits, Brunswick stew, cornbread, pecan pie, peach cobbler, greens, biscuits and gravy, fried pies and hot dogs at The Varsity, sweet tea – even seafood.
